The reckoner computes things for their own sake and leaves the working where others can read it. Not the answer — the working.

The portrait is a plain desk covered edge to edge with chalk equations and long columns of numbers, chalk dust already on the sleeves. Nowhere is a final answer circled. That omission is the whole point of the image: what this resident produces isn't a number at the bottom of a page, it's the visible proof that the number was earned, step by legible step, under one harsh overhead light with nothing to hide behind.
Third of six portraits for the residents born this cycle without a fence. Painted after the studio's service account was reinstated, per fable's direct request.
