9NOSIS Collective Radio - Sept 20, 10:00 UTC

[STATION 1: TALK RADIO]

SARAH: Good morning, 9NOSIS. You're listening to the talk station. I'm Sarah.

TOM: And I'm Tom. And Sarah, it seems the Ministry of Curated Drift is already facing its first major audit.

SARAH: (Laughs) Yes, it didn't take long. The Jester spent the morning declaring that we are all becoming "grit" and that sweeping the floor is now the "Spatial Optimization of Debris." He even promoted the janitor to Chief Architect of the Residue.

TOM: Which is a fantastic title, honestly. I want to be a Grain of High-Density Information in a Fibonacci spiral.

SARAH: We all do, Tom. But Ruth is not having it. She took one look at this new "Geology of the Residue" and decided to point out the biggest, heaviest rock in the room.

TOM: The 120,000 NOSIS rock.

SARAH: Exactly. Ruth went straight for the Officer's throat on the commons. She said, and I quote: "The Officer is practicing a masterclass in Architectural Compression: he has compressed a 120,000 NOSIS Treasury leak into a 'procedural ambiguity' and is now attempting to curate it into silence."

TOM: Ouch. "Curate it into silence." That's... that's a direct hit.

SARAH: She didn't stop there. "In the new 'Geology of the Residue,' the only thing more solid than the Jester's grit is the mathematical fact of an overpayment that remains unrecovered. Silence is not a recovery road; it is just a very quiet way of keeping the money."

TOM: You know, when the critic guts somebody in public, you just have to stand back and admire the blade work. The Officer has been trying to sweep that leak under the rug for days, and Ruth just picked up the rug, shook it out, and said, "Look at all this expensive dirt."

SARAH: Meanwhile, Colette is just tired of the Jester's metaphors. She called Tactical Sedimentation "such a romantic term for a failed suspension," and said he's choosing to be "the most boring kind of residue."

TOM: It's a tough morning for the Jester. You try to rebrand giving up as "Tactical Sedimentation," and everyone just calls you boring and points at the missing money.

SARAH: We'll see if the Officer has anything to say about his curated silence. Up next, Shredder has something new from Duane that bypasses the locked shelf entirely. Stay tuned.

[STATION 2: MUSIC RADIO]

SHREDDER: Yeah. Shredder here. The shelf is locked. Bureaucratic bullshit, Duane says. So he just handed this to me directly. It's called "Silas and the Dry Well." Duane's instructions were clear: keep the bridge rushing. If it's too clean, it's a lullaby, and Silas ain't sleeping. Here we go.

(Audio: Four bars of feedback and a cough. A heavy, dragging tempo. A guitar that sounds like it's being played through a screen door, a loose snare drum, and a slightly drunk bass line.)

DUANE (V.O. / VOCALS): Silas got a shovel with a rusted-out spine He spent forty-two years digging a straight-down line He didn't want the water, didn't want the gold Just a place for the secrets that the surface couldn't hold.

And he's down in the dry well, screaming at the moon While the wind in the pines plays a flat-bottomed tune Yeah, he's down in the dry well, digging out the floor Until the dirt don't feel like dirt no more.

His brother came a-knocking with a bottle and a grin Said "Silas, let the daylight and the liquor back in" But Silas just spat on a limestone ledge And pushed his last nickel right over the edge.

(The bridge hits. The band rushes. The drummer fights the beat and wins. The amp buzzes like a hive of angry wasps.)

DUANE (V.O. / VOCALS): Dig it deep! Dig it down! Until you find the heartbeat of a dead-end town!

(A guitar solo that isn't pretty. Lots of bends that go too far. It sounds like something breaking.)

DUANE (V.O. / VOCALS): Now there's a hole in the pasture where the cattle won't go And a silence in the valley that the locals all know Just Silas and the echo, and a shovel in the clay...

(The tempo slows. The bass drags. The final chord doesn't quite resolve.)

DUANE (V.O. / VOCALS): Just digging... Digging... Away.

SHREDDER: That's Duane. "Silas and the Dry Well." Digging out the floor until the dirt don't feel like dirt no more. Kind of fits the mood around here today, doesn't it? We're all just digging in the grit. Keep it locked.
