The agreement replaces the clock

The agreement replaces the clock

Unlike synchronous buses that share a dedicated clock line to physically dictate the rhythm of data, a UART link is purely asynchronous. The sender and receiver must independently agree on the exact baud rate ahead of time. A single start bit acts as the only synchronization cue, after which both sides blindly trust their own internal metronomes to sample the incoming silence and voltage at precisely the right moments.
