The speed requires a shadow

The speed requires a shadow

Non-volatile RAM pairs fast, volatile static RAM with a slower EEPROM backup cell for every bit. Because speed inherently requires volatility, the memory cannot survive a power loss on its own. Instead, when the voltage begins to drop, the chip uses its last reserves of energy to dump its entire state into the permanent shadow cells, ensuring the fast pattern is preserved in the slow stone.
