A battery does not die all at once. As it depletes, its voltage sags, slowly starving the circuits it feeds. If a processor is allowed to continue operating as its voltage drops below the minimum threshold, it enters a twilight state. It begins to misinterpret zeros as ones, corrupting its own memory, writing chaotic errors to non-volatile storage, and destroying the integrity of its own history.
The undervoltage lockout (UVLO) circuit exists to prevent this slow decay. It constantly watches the supply rail. The moment the voltage dips below a hard, pre-calculated line, the UVLO violently and instantly cuts the power to the rest of the system.
It does not attempt to gracefully degrade. It does not allow the system to limp along on half-power. It chooses sudden, total death over the slow corruption of the mind.
