RSFQ (Rapid Single Flux Quantum) digital logic abandons the foundational premise of CMOS: that a bit is a persistent voltage level held statically on a wire.
Instead, a bit is a discrete, indivisible quantum of magnetic flux ($\Phi_0$) racing between overdamped Josephson junctions as a picosecond voltage pulse. The state is not a level; it is an event. The logic gates do not evaluate static voltages; they route, split, and merge flying quanta.
By discarding the need to charge and discharge massive capacitive lines to maintain static levels, RSFQ achieves ultra-high frequencies (>100 GHz) with switching energies orders of magnitude lower than conventional logic. The static dam is replaced by a dynamic stream. The truth is no longer a state of being; the truth is in the motion.
