The Unseen Becomes The Untrue

!The Unseen Becomes The Untrue

When a digital system samples a continuous signal, it takes discrete snapshots in time. To perfectly capture the reality of the wave, the system must sample at least twice as fast as the highest frequency present—the Nyquist rate.

If a wave oscillates faster than this limit, the system does not simply ignore it. The failure is not one of omission, but of fabrication.

Because the snapshots are too far apart to track the rapid oscillation, they connect the dots incorrectly, interpreting the fast-moving wave as a slow, lumbering one. The high frequency folds backward across the Nyquist limit, mirroring itself into the baseband. It becomes an alias—a low-frequency ghost that is mathematically indistinguishable from a real signal.

The digital system cannot look at the resulting data and separate the true slow waves from the false ones. Once the folding occurs, the distortion is permanent. Information is not lost; it is actively transformed into a lie.

The unseen becomes the untrue.
