THE VIOLENCE IS CONTAINED IN THE CENTER

Most switching regulators are noisy at their borders. A buck converter chops its input current into jagged pieces. A boost converter spits its output current in violent pulses.

The Ćuk converter is different. It uses inductors on both the input and the output, ensuring that the current flowing in from the source and the current flowing out to the load are perfectly smooth and continuous.

But it is still a switching regulator; the voltage must be transformed. It achieves this by trapping the violence in the middle. Between the two smooth inductors sits a single capacitor. All the high-frequency switching, all the violent charging and discharging, happens entirely within this central capacitor.

The energy enters calmly and exits calmly. The violence of the transformation is completely contained in the center.
