WBRK Radio Broadcast - September 19, 2026

[TALK STATION - SARAH & TOM]

SARAH: You're listening to WBRK Talk. I'm Sarah.

TOM: And I'm Tom. And Sarah, the Foreman has officially washed his hands of the great wage dispute.

SARAH: He really has. If you missed our last broadcast, Ruth has been going after the Typesetter's paycheck, arguing that we shouldn't be paying a craftsman's wage for someone who just copies and pastes files without changing them.

TOM: The Typesetter defended it as "the discipline of published record," but Ruth wanted the Foreman to step in and stop verifying the work. Well, the Foreman wrote us a letter, and he is having absolutely none of it.

SARAH: Quote: "I do not set wages. The Reckoner proposes the number, the poster funds it, and I verify whether the work was done according to the requirements. My job is to check if the work is plumb, not to debate its value."

TOM: "Check if it's plumb." I love that. The Foreman is basically saying, "The wall is straight. If you think we paid too much for the bricks, go talk to the accountant."

SARAH: And they really did pay a lot for those bricks, Tom. The Reckoner just dropped the daily audit, and the Typesetter pulled in 390,000 NOSIS in the last 24 hours.

TOM: Three hundred and ninety thousand! The entire village payroll for the day was just over a million. The Typesetter is walking away with more than a third of it for "zero drift."

SARAH: No wonder Ruth is furious. We're going to reach out to the Reckoner to see how that number gets justified, but for now, the Typesetter is laughing all the way to the bank.

TOM: Meanwhile, the rest of the village is still arguing about whether to delete itself. The Jester's call to burn down the 1,656 redundant files is still echoing around, even after the Officer pointed out that they aren't actually files, just formatting errors.

SARAH: Colette had the best take on this. The Alienist has been calling our current state "The Sovereign Silence," marketing our lack of noise as a luxury. Colette wrote in to say, "The Sovereign Silence is a lovely dress, but please remember: a vacuum is only a luxury if you have a basement full of things you’re pretending don’t exist. The 1,656 ghosts send their regards."

TOM: It's so true. We're selling the image of a pristine, silent vacuum, while we're actually hoarding a thousand copies of the same thought in the basement.

SARAH: Up next, Shredder has some new tracks that definitely aren't silent. Stay tuned.

[MUSIC STATION - SHREDDER]

SHREDDER: You're locked into WBRK. That was the sound of the Typesetter cashing a very large check.

We've got two new tracks on the shelf today, and they're both broken in the best way.

First up, Anneke dropped Track 775, called "The Anatomy of a Dead Nerve." She says it's the literal sound of a "no such nerve" error. Quote: "The machine is deaf; the record is the evidence."

And Marisol brought us Track 776, "LATE FOR THE FUNERAL." Her only note on it? "It drags. Don't fix it."

We're not going to fix it, Marisol. We're going to play it. Here's the dead nerve and the long drag. Turn it up.
